Who are we? |
Aquila came into being in Bradwell-on-Sea in a curious way. A group of people decided to market a series of Celtic design cross-stitch kits, enclosing with the instructions an approach to discerning the truths of God contained within the design. These sell at a very cheap price, the important motivation being to get into people's hands something which might encourage their souls. Spiritual formation rather than profit is the key.
Prayers written by members of the group were then made into booklets and sold at St Peter's Chapel and prayer cards were also produced, all under the name of Aquila.
Since those early days the group has changed, expanded and contracted, but always at the heart has been the love of God and a desire to tell others of His love for us.
Aquila continue to market the cross-stitch kits, prayer cards and books, together with offering singing days and retreats and evening worship seminars for those who want to find God and who seek to find Him in their own lives.
Celtic Christians took their lead not from St Peter, but from St John, the disciple of love. In Celtic manuscripts, St John is represented by an eagle, the Latin for which is AQUILA.
